The Logitech Media Server is a must-have tool for playing music, watching videos and stream your media library to Squeezebox or other software players. Although the app does not include a documentation, the options are well organized and can be easily accessed by the user. These pages also control the plugins that are used to expand the program’s functions and the way metadata is arranged on the player. If you want to enable the iTunes usage and the playlists that are monitored, you need to use your Internet browser. It also provides access to the web interface that allows you to browse the multimedia files and to control the media playback.Īlthough some of the settings can be changed from the Windows interface, most of the server configuration can be accessed in the web UI. Roons Squeezebox functionality works by emulating LMS-if LMS is running on your network, devices may find and associate with it, or become confused. The server’s Control Panel enables you to configure the basic parameters and to view the status of the service. Step 1: The first thing you should do is turn off any Logitech Media Server (LMS) instances running on your network. If you want to create or import playlists, the program supports M3U, PLS and CUE files. The application is able to read the information stored in the file metadata and broadcast them to your Squeezebox device or software players such as Winamp or iTunes. This enables the program to start even if the user has not logged in and ensures that the media files are streamed to your Squeezebox immediately. If you want to run the server at the computer startup you need to enter the account credentials. You can select the folder and storage devices that can be scanned by the application. You can use this tool in order to scan your multimedia files and send them to the Squeezebox library. The server is designed for the Squeezebox users who want to listen to their tracks stored on the the computer hard drive. Logitech Media Server is a useful application for the users that want to stream multimedia files from their home computer to wireless devices. StackOverflow still delivers, fixes my Rollup.js problem. However I still needed the manual fix for slimserver.css. Many thanks to LMS user pinkdot on the LMS forums. Update: I fixed the settings issue by installing the latest LMS 9.0 with this patch. I can live with that (open in Internet Explorer) but would like to find a fix. The LMS Settings page does not work in Edge. I’m glad because I have LMS on the Edge favourites bar, and the alternative (opening LMS in IE or another browser) is less convenient.Īnd yes, I use Edge, in part to keep in touch with what it is like, in part because I’m resistant to a Google Chrome monoculture, and in part because it’s pretty good now (the initial Edge release was hardly usable). I logged into the Synology over SSH and made the change manually in works. However this does not update the Synology package. However, I then discovered that the LMS 9.0 UI does not work in Microsoft Edge, if you have the Creators Update. Now I can play native DSF files through Squeezebox Touch (you also need the EDO modification) and a Teac DSD DAC. A user has updated the plugin, and if you add the following plugin repository: I installed, then added DSDPlayer and, hmm, I could see the DSD files but they did not play. You enable beta versions in the Package Center and it will offer to update. End of Software Maintenance: The last date that Synology may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. I then discovered that Synology is showing signs of updating LMS and has a beta release of LMS 9.0. DSD is the format used by SACD and some audiophiles swear it sounds better than PCM. The Media Server is still not showing up on my system, or on any other system on my network. This means you can output native DSD provided you have a DSD DAC (and some DSD files to play). There's a known minor issue with Custom Clock, but I can't see that having any effect. There are a few issues with this release, but I lived with it, until I discovered that LMS 9.x can play DSD files, using a DSDPlayer plugin that adds DoP (DSD over PCM) support. Synology has been slow to keep its LMS package up to date and the official release is still 7.7.6. It works very well, better than when I used a Windows VM. I run Logitech Media Server (LMS) on a Synology NAS.
